This dramatised documentary describes life in the Aboriginal Reserve of Palm Island during the 1950s leading up to a strike in 1957. Aborigines on the Reserve were subjected to a degree of official authority only experienced in this country by people inside gaols and asylums. No Aborigine was allowed to leave the Reserve without the permission of the white superintendent, medical inspections were compulsory, food was rationed and "dancing or other native practices" required written permission. The strike in 1957 was the first time multi-tribal Aborigines united over an issue. The first time they had used white man's methods to fight and the first time that Aborigines had fought for self determination. The recent riots and coronial enquiry on Palm Island bring this film to centre stage 30 years after it was made.

Something is missing in the Australian media and it's you. The races is one of the last places that ladies and gentlemen take time to think about their attire and showcase their individuality through fashion. Where else besides the beach do we have an excuse to wear a hat or adorn our hair in feathers and flowers. We need to celebrate all the women of Australia who love the races and want to keep the tradition alive of making it a high fashion event. We will be showcasing boutiques, millinery, accessories and much more to make finding the outfit easy. All New Season 6 is here! Starts Tuesday December 16 at 7:30 pm, with repeats on Wednesdays at 2pm and Fridays at 5:30pm.
