      The Sydney Ice Dogs entered the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) in 2002. Back then, the club was known as the West Sydney Ice Dogs. The club was formed by Jim Wilson and his son Anthony Wilson, who also Captained the club in its Inaugural year. The dogs finished the with 8 wins 1 tie 6 losses from 15 games and finished 3rd. It was not quite enough to make the Final. The Dogs didn't have to wait to long for some success. In 2003 the Dogs to the Newcastle North Stars 4-1 in the final of the Goodall Cup. The club didn't need to wait to long to extract revenge. 2004 seen the Dogs win their first Cup disposing of the North Stars 3-1. A rivalry was born! Once again in 2008 it was heart break for the Dogs losing to their nemesis from the North once agin in the Final 4-1 In 2009 the Ice Dogs dropped "West" from their title and became simply the Sydney Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs did not make the final this year and followed it up with another poor season in 2010. The Dogs slowly rebuilt, finishing 3rd in 2011 and 2nd.
