Epic Ricky Ponting footage comes to light as cricket fans lose it over special moment

The footage from the Aussie cricket legend has cricket fans going wild.

Cricket fans have lost it over footage of Aussie legend Ricky Ponting spending time to show young Indian batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi after his team's defeat in the IPL. Ponting and the Capitals were not able to defeat the Kolkata Knight Riders with Mitchell Starc's team moving to second on the ladder.

The Capitals only managed 9-153 with Aussie prodigy Jake Fraser-McGurk falling for just 12 off the bowling of Starc. While Starc was expensive, the Knight Riders easily chased down the total thanks to Phil Salt's innings at the top of the order.

While the players congratulated each other at the end of the game, the broadcast picked up a special moment between Aussie cricket legend Ponting and 18-year-old Raghuvanshi. The young batter is considered one of the future stars of Indian cricket and was the leading run-scorer in the U-19s World Cup in 2022.

Having not had the opportunity to bat in the last two Kolkata Knight Riders' matches, Raghuvanshi was seen receiving advice from Ponting. The Delhi Capitals coach is Australia's all-time leading run scorer and he was renowned for his perfectly-timed pull shot.

And after the match, Ponting was seen working with Raghuvanshi on his pull shot technique. The advice would be invaluable for Raghuvanshi as he looks to cement himself in the Knight Riders line-up. Fans couldn't help but take in the IPL moment, which has allowed young Indian cricketers gain experience from some of the game's legends since its introduction. And Ponting was praised for his classy act for the future star of Indian cricket.

Ponting and the Capitals team have been instrumental in giving young Aussie prodigy Fraser-McGurk tiome at the top of the order. This has come at the expense of David Warner who has been dropped from the starting XI.

There has been growing calls for the 22-year-old to be selected in the Aussie T20 World Cup squad, which could see him open with Travis Head. This comes after taking the IPL by storm with three half-centuries in six innings. However, in a brutal development, Code Sports reported Fraser-McGurk will be overlooked for the squad. Steve Smith will also miss out.

Veteran Warner will be selected even though he has been dropped for the Capitals and has been out of form in the white-ball arena. Only last week, former Aussie captain Michael Clarke was hailing Fraser-McGurk's impact and claimed he should be heading to the US and West Indies for the World Cup in July.

Most recently, Fraser-McGurk admitted he wasn't thinking about the World Cup. And Ponting claimed he wanted to continue to work with the 22-year-old to develop his game. "So far he is not anywhere near the finished product yet," Ponting said the other day. "I would love to be able to spend more time with him one-on-one and work on his batting," he added. "I think he can be a three-format player for Australia."
