Shocking moment alleged kidnappers chased down by parents after 10-year-old boy taken

Police have since confirmed that three people have been arrested and charged over the dramatic ordeal that unfolded on a suburban street.

Chilling CCTV footage has emerged of the moment a family fought back and rescued a 10-year-old boy from an alleged kidnapper, in a stunning altercation involving multiple people that sent shockwaves through a tight-knit community.

Police allege a group of a children were playing at a skatepark in Logan in Queensland on Friday when one threw a stone at a nearby Jeep. They say it was that act that prompted the driver to allegedly snatch the boy from the popular playground, in Kingston, and drive off with him in his car, which contained two other occupants.

Officers further allege that for more than half an hour, the group — allegedly armed with machetes — drove around the suburbs with the boy in the car until his family caught wind of the ordeal and intercepted the vehicle on a suburban street. Footage captured the ensuing brawl between the boy's parents, other family members and the occupants of the vehicle.

In the desperate scenes that followed, the family can be heard screaming at the alleged abductors.

"Give our son back,” his mother can be heard yelling, as his father tries to force the SUV's door open. "Someone help, help! They stole my kid."

Punches and kicks are thrown as the altercation intensifies, with the boy's dad being knocked unconscious by one of the alleged offenders, before his mother attempts to aid him, before also being allegedly assaulted.

Grainy vision captured from a nearby home shows the two groups continue to violently clash before the boy is eventually freed, with the child heard asking for his scooter to be returned from the Jeep as the group drives off, fleeing the scene. However they didn't make it far, being apprehended by police just some 100 metres from where the brawl took place.

Addressing media at the weekend, Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Chris Stream said the shocking saga was "really scary" for the young boy and his family.

"There will be a number of allegations which police will allege occurred involving interactions between those three persons, a 10-year-old child and also persons (who) were related to that 10-year-old child,” he said on Sunday.

“Currently, they’re allegations but obviously, really scary for a child to be involved in that type of incident, as you would appreciate, also very scary for parents involved, having a child allegedly abducted.”

The 10-year-old boy will be supported by the child protection unit.
