Miss World Australia and a group of aspiring models have been involved in a "terrifying" incident outside a shopping centre, claiming they were set upon by a woman in a targeted and unprovoked attack.

Jasmin Stinger, the current pageant winner, rushed outside the Southport Park shopping complex in Queensland on Friday after receiving a call from a distressed teen — who'd just completed catwalk training with Stinger at the centre's gymnasium — claiming a woman was physically and verbally attacking them. The 26-year-old said she too then found herself fending off the violent woman.

It's alleged the group of females, which included a 14-year-old, were waiting for a taxi when the unknown woman approached them. Video taken at the scene shows punches being thrown and hair being pulled. Screaming and swearing can also be heard as the young girls, and a mother, defended themselves.

"She came up and tried to hit me straight in the face. I managed to fend her off with my arms," Stinger told 7News on Monday.

Stevie Hearl, 23, who was part of the group, claims she was attacked from behind before being "pulled to the ground by my hair". Stinger said the whole incident lasted over 20 minutes, describing it as "very, very terrifying".

Queensland Police told media a 46-year-old Southport woman has been charged following the alleged disturbance. Police said they attended Ferry Road, Southport, on Friday following reports of a fight in a car park and located the woman who was taken into custody.

She has been given a notice to appear for committing public nuisance and is due to appear in court next month.
