A former licensee of a Newcastle pub has been banned for two years after a man was served 22 schooners and one shot in a drinking binge.

The man was carried unconscious out of Stockton's Gladstone Hotel in March 2021 after a six-and-a-half hour drinking session.

Liquor & Gaming NSW found the pub, run by Tracey Keegan, did not display responsible service of alcohol, lacking "appropriate practices, procedures, training and supervision were in place to prevent intoxication".

A man is in custody for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend less than two weeks after he was placed under mandatory supervision for breaching an earlier order to leave the woman alone.

Anthony Monteleone appeared in a Sydney suburban court on Friday on domestic violence-related charges of wounding with intent to murder and breaching an apprehended violence order.

He handed himself in to police on Thursday, nearly 24 hours after investigators say he lay in wait for the woman outside Crunch Fitness before attacking her with a kitchen knife.

She was treated by paramedics for multiple stab wounds before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Global consumption of wine is down, leaving Australia's grape-growing regions facing the daunting prospect of tearing down their vineyards.

A growing number of factors have contributed to the downturn for Australian producers, including Chinese tariffs under the Morrison government, cost-of-living pressures and changing tastes of the nation's younger generations, the ABC reports.

Lee McLean from Australian Grape and Wine says there's roughly 500 million litres of red wine sitting in tanks, barrels and bottles around the country.

"It's the kind of stock-to-sales ratio that can't be worked through with the reopening of any single market, even a really significant one like China," he told the ABC.

He says some wine regions may be forced to lose up to 20 per cent of its vineyards to survive.

A Chinese zoo has denied it's cheating its visitors after video of small dogs painted black and white to resemble panda cubs sparked controversy.

Videos of the Chow Chow dogs at Taizhou Zoo were shared to Chinese social media which left many questioning the integrity of the zoo. State media described putting dogs in the enclosure a "deceptive tactic".

But the zoo says signage is clear saying signage clearly states they are dogs. "We are not cheating our visitors," a staff member told the Global Times.

A 34-year-old woman has been found living in the roof at a supermarket's entrance after contractors in Michigan spotted an electrical cable leading up there.

The homeless woman had made herself at home, installing a desk with a computer, a printer and even a coffee machine. She'd also laid down some flooring.

She said she had a job elsewhere and had been in the small space for roughly a year.

Australian tourists are stranded in Vanuatu after the small island nation's airline cancelled flights amid financial troubles.

Among those stranded on holiday is a woman 31 weeks pregnant who is keen to get home to have access to the Australian medical system if needed. "It's more just being safe," she told the ABC.

The Vanuatuan government has apologised to travellers as they await further updates.

The NSW city of Coffs Harbour is on edge after a woman was bashed unconscious on a walking track on Wednesday.

It comes after a 21-year-old surfer was stabbed to death at a Coffs Harbour beach last Thursday as well as a separate violent robbery on the same day.

While a man was arrested over the robbery, police have not been able to find a suspect in the deadly stabbing. The woman's attacker on Wednesday has also not been found.

Police have deployed further resources in the coastal city to ease concerns of the community, the ABC reported.

The infamous Sinaloa Cartel has claimed it “handed” over the alleged killers of Perth brothers Callum and Jake Robinson who police say were shot dead in an attempted carjacking in Mexico's northwest.

An anonymous member of the cartel told the US outlet The Daily Beast they found the brothers' alleged killers before the police.

“They were low-level robbers acting alone. But we handed them over... We called the authorities to let them know where to find them," they said.

In a stunning earlier twist, the arrested girlfriend of suspect Jesus Gerardo turned into a star prosecution witness as she claimed in court he told her he'd killed "three gringos".
