Bridgerton fans go wild over telling clue in season three trailer: 'Chef's kiss'

Fans of the steamy hit Netflix series Bridgerton are on the edge of their seat as they eagerly await the release of the third season. The show, which debuted in 2020 and quickly became one of the streamers' most-watched offerings, is based on Julia Quinn's popular book series.

Season three will focus on former friends Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) as Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. However, when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.

In the freshly dropped trailer for the new season, it's obvious that the pair are going to have just the teensiest bit of trouble trying to keep things platonic - despite Penelope vowing to give Colin the cold shoulder after overhearing him making disparaging remarks about her in season two.

Eagle-eyed fans have also shared their delight in a 'telling' detail in the series trailer, which seems to feature some pretty crafty symbolism.

"DID you guys SEE how the candle flame got larger after Eloise said 'since when are you worried about Penelope?' it's the small details OMGGG," one excited fan wrote, referring to the scene at the 1:28 mark in the trailer where a flame flickers and then grows bigger, as Colin sits with a look of realisation on his face.

Another fan noticed that this symbolism was a callback to earlier in the trailer writing, "At the start Penelope has a candle that’s already lit representing how she’s already in love with Colin and then we get a scene of a candle lighting in front of Colin representing his realisation of love for pen! Omg I’m so hyped I can’t!!"

"The candle symbolism!" another fan enthused. "The candle seen near Penelope at the beginning is burning brightly, as her love for Collin has always been burning brightly. But Colin's lamp candle (love for Penelope) is now firing up! BUT it was already a tiny blue flame, at the start of the sequence, meaning, he always loved her a little; it's just fully catching now."

"The candle with the "slow burn" when Collin is sitting there is.... chef's kiss," another fan gushed.

"I love the symbolism of the flame coming to life as Colin realizes his feelings," someone else offered.

Said another, "Something about the way candle lit foreshadowing Colin's realization of his feelings for Pen... it's gonna be a cinematic masterpiece."

And, yet another posted, "Another thing I noticed was it went from small flick of light with the candle scene to a big flame behind Colin at the end. Showing that he can't contain his feelings anymore LOVE IT."

Despite all of the hype and anticipation, fans sadly have a bit longer to wait to see Colin and Penelope's story play out on screen as the hit series - which is produced by Shonda Rhimes - doesn't drop until May 16 on Netflix.
