Waves Crash Over Newcastle Esplanade as Low Pressure System Whips Up Surf off Australia's East

A storm surge created large waves that crashed over the Newcastle foreshore on May 24.

The dangerous surf conditions were whipped up by a low pressure system off the east coast of Australia, which created swells of up to five metres in Newcastle, Sydney and the New South Wales Central Coast.

Wild winds continued to batter Sydney and coastal parts of the Illawarra region on May 25.
