Standing Ovation: London Man in Coronavirus Lockdown Pretends Crowd Cheers Him On for Staying Home

As Britons unite nightly to cheer on their NHS workers during the COVID-19 lockdown, a London man had his own celebration on March 28.

A video upload by Eno Mwamba, a London based banker, showed himself pretending to graciously accept the applause of his fellow Londoners. Filmed by his housemate, the clip showed Eno waving and bowing to nonexistent onlookers as recorded cheering played in the background. Eno told Storyful he “pretended to be the royal family standing on the balcony to be applauded.”

Citizens across Britain have been celebrating their frontline health care workers each night during the lock down. As of April 6, Britain now has confirmed 51,608 coronavirus cases and 5,373 fatalities.

In a Facebook post highlighting the importance of social distance, Mwamba wrote “instead of asking you to take up arms, and go to war, all you have to do, in order to be a hero is to stay at home, like literally just stay at home.” Credit: Eno Mwamba via Storyful
