Severe Thunderstorm Brings Hail to Melbourne's City Centre

A severe thunderstorm brought a shower of hail to Melbourne’s CBD on February 18.

Around 25-50mm of rain fell in various locations around the CBD.

The Bureau of Meteorology noted the rainfall for the year has completely eclipsed last year’s rainfall totals for the same period, with 177.6mm falling so far in 2020. It took until mid-July in 2019 to reach the same rainfall total.

Hail storms were felt elsewhere in the state on the same day, with “golf-ball” sized hail observed at Lakes Entrance in the state’s south-east. Credit: Jacqui Dark via Storyful
