Protesters Gather Outside Julian Assange's Extradition Hearing

Protesters gathered outside Woolwich Crown Court in London on February 24 on the first day of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange’s extradition hearing.

Assange, who has been remanded to Belmarsh prison since May 2019 after being found guilty of breaching the Bail Act, is fighting extradition to the US.

Assange is accused by US authorities of leaking hundreds of thousands of classified military documents relating to the US involvement in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is also accused of conspiring with former army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning hack into government computers.

If convicted in the US, he faces up to 175 years in prison.
