'It's Happening!': Florida Girl Uses New Wheelchair-Friendly Shopping Cart

A 9-year-old girl who uses a wheelchair was able to help her mom with grocery shopping on October 10, thanks to a new accessible shopping cart at a Publix grocery store in Lutz, Florida.

The cart hooks on to the front of a wheelchair so that users don’t have to transfer over to a motorized scooter to shop.

This video shows 9-year-old Amaria using the wheelchair-accessible shopping cart.

In the video, she shouts “It’s happening!” as she moves throughout the store and points to the cart. The video later shows her shopping, filling the cart with laundry detergent and perusing aisles.

“Publix gave my daughter the chance to grab just a little more independence! These attachable wheelchair accessible shopping carts are the best,” Tiffani Borders, who filmed the video, said on Facebook.

A spokesman for the Publix chain, which has about 1,230 locations in the southeastern US, told local media the carts aren’t at every store but can be added if they’re requested. Credit: Tiffani Borders via Storyful
