Flash Flooding Snarls Traffic on Philadelphia-Area Roads

Heavy rain caused flash flooding on roadways in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of Saturday, January 25, snarling traffic, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reported.

Among the routes affected was Interstate 76. This footage shows vehicles moving slowly through floodwaters on eastbound lanes of I-76 by the Schuylkill River, close to Belmont Hills. Authorities put a lane restriction in place around noon, and at 2pm said the flooding had cleared.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly said between one and three inches of rain fell across southeast Pennsylvania and southwest New Jersey on Saturday morning, and had warned that several rivers and streams were “quickly rising and exceeding flood stage.” Credit: John Barchard via Storyful
