Fish With Beautiful Blue-Tipped Fins 'Walks' Along Seabed in Port Phillip Bay

The gurnard fish, or sea robin, is famous for “walking” across the sea floor, propelling itself using parts of its pectoral fins.

Freediver Jules Casey captured this video of a fish in Port Phillip Bay, Victoria. She posted the video to Instagram with the caption “Such a crazy looking fish…it can walk & swim”. Casey replied to comments on her post, where she and others identified the fish as a gurnard.

A Port Phillip Bay taxonomy site classifies the gurnard among marine species in the bay, noting that it’s the “largest scorpionfish” in that location. Credit: onebreathdiver via Storyful
