Driver Flees After Crashing Into Pumps, Causing Fire at Maine Gas Station

A driver who fled the scene on Saturday, September 19, after they reversed into gas pumps and caused a fire at a filling station in South Portland, Maine, was later identified with help from the community, staff at the business said.

Footage of the incident was posted on Facebook by ScrubaDub Car Wash, a business with several locations across New England, along with an appeal for help identifying the driver. The video shows a dark vehicle reversing out of a parking space and smashing into a pump, sparking a small blaze.

The South Portland Police Department on Saturday also issued an appeal, sharing still images both of the suspect and his vehicle on social media.

By Monday morning, the driver had been identified, ScrubaDub staff said on Facebook. “To our Maine customers, thank you so much for your help!” they wrote.
