A large sinkhole that appeared on farmland in Puebla, Mexico, on May 29 continues to grow.

Footage shot by Jose Castanares on May 30 shows the sinkhole in Santa Maria Zacatepec, which started off at five meters in diameter and has since grown to 60 meters in diameter.

According to the United States Geological Survey, sinkholes happen when the ground can no longer support the land surface above it.

A family whose home was threatened by the sinkhole have been evacuated, and officials will carry out an investigation into how the sinkhole occurred, CNN reported. Credit: Jose Castanares / Agencia EsImagen.mx via Storyful
