Christina Parie may only be 15 but she possesses a maturity that belies her youth. Inspired by the likes of Avril Lavigne, Pink and punk rockers Paramore, her vocals pack a punch as shown during her performance of Kelly Clarkson’s ‘I Do Not Hook Up’ at auditions.
Ronan said her "stage presence is incredible", while Guy was blown away, adding "You are complete. People in the record industry look for people like you."
The Mount St Benedict Year 10 student from Pennant Hills, in Sydney’s North-West, already has a wealth of performing experience under her belt. As the lead singer of five piece band Losing Sight, she performs regularly at cafes, festivals and venues across Sydney.
Along with reworked classic covers, she also sings her own self-penned tunes and plays guitar. It’s a winning combination she thinks sets her apart from her competitors. "I just feel like there is something different about me,” she says, “my edgy attitude and the confidence that I bring on stage with me really separates me from the rest of the competition."
But her pitch could be her undoing. “Sometimes I get pitchy if I’m running around the stage or if I get nervous.”
Christina, who describes herself as an “edgy rock child”, released her first independent EP earlier this year.
She’s proficient in piano and recently took up the guitar. “I play a bit of guitar, mainly piano,” she says, “I’ve been playing piano since I was nine and started guitar around a year ago.”
The middle child of parents Mary and Jim – she has an 18-year-old sister Alexa and a 14-year-old brother Jordan – Christina is the only musical one. “It doesn’t run in the family. I’m the only one who sings.”Although she’s still at school, she has her heart set on a career in music. “The goal is definitely music. It’s all I want to do.”
