More than six months ago, The X Factor juggernaut rolled into Australia’s major cities looking for the country’s next singing superstar.

Tonight, they found him.

It’s been a series that has made us cry with laughter - "Introvert Extrovert" anyone? - we’ve teared-up over inspirational performers like Emmanuel Kelly, and we’ve feasted on prime time entertainment twice a week for the last ten weeks.

We’ve watched the judges quarrel, the fans scream themselves hoarse, and the contestants give their all time after time.

After tonight’s early elimination saw Johnny Ruffo come a valiant third, it was all down to Andrew and Reece to see who would be crowned X Factor king 2011.

When it was time to read the final results, the nation held its collective breath as we waited for Luke to finish his trademark pause.

Until at last, he spoke: “And the winner of The X Factor Australia 2011 is… Reece Mastin!”

Cue hysteria, confetti and fainting girls: the lot.

Well done Reece. See you at the top of the charts!
