World's Strictest Parents

SINGAPORE (Chua Family)

Zaine and Memphis are about to be thrown into one of the strictest societies in the world: Singapore.

In Singapore there are hefty fines for spitting, vandals are caned, and taking drugs can mean jail or even the death penalty.

Mum Ean is a parenting coach while Dad Meng works for a multi-national bank. “I believe in authoritative parenting,” Ean says.

Meng adds,” For me, no means no! That’s it.”

Their daughters Esse and Ada are both straight-A students at the most prestigious school in the country. “Their major role is in performing the job of being a student,” Ean says.

“Normally they will spend at least three hours each day doing their their homework.”

The Chua girls must eat dinner with their parents every night.

Sleepovers and boyfriends are forbidden.

“For our family, we really believe that there should not be pre-marital sex,” Ean says.

Daughter Ada adds, “Even things like kissing or making out in public are really an issue in my school”

Drinking and smoking are also frowned upon. “That’s a big no, no,” Meng says. “And the consequences are every severe.”

As are sleepovers. “I will never let my kids stay with anybody else,” Meng says. “I see no reason why.”

Meng and Ean also keep a watchful eye on their daughter’s wardrobe. “I want them to look nice but I don’t want them to look overly attractive for unnecessary attention,” Ean says. “We do not want the girls to dress in clothing that will be revealing and will attract attention.”
