Running for a cause

There will be no losers on Sunday 11 November when Winners and Losers star Stephen Phillips participates in the Melbourne City2Sea to raise money for World Vision Australia’s emergency food programs.

Mr Phillips, who plays Zach Armstrong on the Channel 7 drama, said he aims to raise $5000 to help deliver life saving food aid through World Vision Australia’s Multiplying Gift Appeal.

“World Vision has been a huge part of my life from an early age with my family sponsoring children while I was growing up, donating to emergencies and responding to other appeals,” Stephen said.

“I have remained passionate about the work World Vision does and hope that by running as a member of Team World Vision in the City2Sea I can not only raise money, but also get other people involved in future fun runs,” he said.

Team World Vision spokesperson Rose Levien said having Stephen join the team was another highlight in a year filled with outstanding achievements.

“In 2012 Team World Vision has received incredible support from people like Stephen from across Australia, who are passionate about helping people in the world’s most vulnerable communities,” Rose said.

“We hope that Winners and Losers fans across Melbourne will support Stephen either by helping him reach his fundraising target, or by joining our cheer squad on the day.

“Team World Vision events are a great opportunity for supporters to have fun, get fit and be part of a team all while fundraising and creating awareness for the Multiplying Gift Appeal,” she said.

The Multiplying Gift enables World Vision to deliver up to $10 in food aid and relief essentials for every $1 donated, meaning Stephen’s $5000 could deliver up to $50,000 in emergency supplies.
