MasterChef judge Matt Moran's foul-mouthed rant where he blew up on a TV set after one of the staff put a plate of food he just cooked in the rubbish is part of an anti-food wasting campaign.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, PR company Liquid Ideas hired Moran to fake an on-set tantrum to promote anti-food wasting.

The promotion was made for not-for-profit organisation OzHarvest that redistributes restaurant leftovers.

In the video, Moran appeared to have just finished up a segment for a cooking show when the worker emptied a plate of food into a bin,

Moran then turned around and unleashed on the young man for wasting food.

He exploded: "What are you doing? Why throw that away for?"

"I just spent half an hour putting that perfectly on a plate, and you throw it in the f***ing bin.

"There's nothing wrong with that food, that's being wasteful.

"It could have fed one of these guys; it could have fed me".

"Get it out of the bin and put it back on the f***ing plate."

Moran ignored pleas by set staff that it was necessary to clear the set, before storming off.

The video, which was posted on YouTube, sparked debate amongst the comments, with some users believing the video was a setup.
