R U OK? Day is a relatively new awareness campaign that launched last year. The campaign aims to prevent suicide by encouraging Australians to sit down with the people they care about, whether family, friends or colleagues and ask the question 'Are You Ok?'.
++ Prison Break star Dominic Purcell drops into Brekky Central to discuss the R U OK? campaign.
More than one million Australians took part in R U OK? Day last year, instigating over 650,000 conversations that helped stop little problems turning into big ones. This year the campaign aims to increase participation and encourage people to have meaningful conversations with people to prevent feelings of isolation, depression and potentially, suicide.
Today we dropped in on the woman in a bubble, Brisbane local Louise Bellchambers who is camping out in the Queen Street Mall for 100 hours inside a 3x3 metre transparent cube to raise awareness about mental health issues.
The event commences on the afternoon of 4 October, in the lead up to World Mental Health Day on 10 October.
Mrs Bellchambers will be blogging at www.clearthinking.com.au and posting interviews with Cube visitors throughout the week.
