Why am I being asked to switch to Freeview?
Between 2010 and 2013 the analogue free-to-view TV signals in Australia will be switched off and replaced with digital only signals (for more information on the switchover, go to the Digital Switchover taskforce website. What does that mean for you? Well, to keep watching TV and all your favourite shows for free, you’ll need to upgrade your current TV to receive the new signal (by connecting it to a set top box or other digital recording device), or buy a new HD TV with the technology built in to receive the signal.
Digital is just another way or transmitting content from the TV networks to your television. It uses improved technology that has some additional benefits over the analogue transmission system, including:
1) Better sound and picture quality
2) You can get MORE CHANNELS! Digital is a more efficient way of broadcasting, so the networks can squeeze more channels into the same space
