Son: Matt Kenny

28, Refrigeration and air-conditioning technician

With five sisters 28 year-old Matt Kenny says the biggest misconception people have about him is that he understands women.

“People assume that because I was bought up with seven women (my mother, nan and five sisters) I’d know all there is to know about women . . . all their secrets. In actual fact, I still can’t work them out,” he confesses. “All I know is ‘just keep them happy.’”

As one of seven children (Matt also has a brother, Jarrod) the former lifeguard and keen surfer from the Sutherland Shire loves anything to do with the outdoors.

He’s ready to settle down, but admits he’s not great with making the first move. And he’s committed to trying to break his habit of dating younger girls – so he’s in the market for a more mature woman. And a woman who can handle the female family dynamic.

“My ideal woman is down to earth and has sense of humour,” he says. “She’s easy going. I’m not really into the princess type. I like someone who doesn’t take herself too seriously and obviously someone I’m attracted to. Great eyes and a great smile.”

“There’s a lot of characteristics I’m looking for. As I’m getting older, I’m getting more serious about finding the one, so I guess I’m also getting a little fussier when it comes to the right girl for me.”

Matt, whose dream wedding would be “low-key on a beach” explains his relationships to date have spared him of major heartbreak.

“All the break-ups with my past girlfriends have been mutual decisions, I haven’t really had a bad break-up,” he says. “Sure there have been times when I’ve been upset to lose my girl, but I say everything happens for a reason.”

But Matt hasn’t escaped the bad date or two. “My sister set me up on a blind date with her friend,” he

admits. “It was horrible, we didn’t connect at all. So I just took her to KFC and then ending up sitting on the couch with her grandma watching the footy.”

Matt’s hoping his mother’s match-making attempt on Please Marry My Boy! will be more successful than his sister’s. After being approached by a casting agent at the local pub, Matt decided the program was the perfect way to “get out of my comfort zone” and help find him that someone special to settle down with.

To do that, he’s prepared to put his mother Karen in charge of his love-life for the course of the program. Matt adores his mother but admits they can have a feisty relationship at times.

“My mum is a strong lady with a big heart. We have a funny relationship,” he says. “We are not the typical

mother and son. Our way of showing love is making fun of each other.”

And his biggest concern about his mother choosing him a partner? “Mum choosing someone like her. That would be horrible!” he laughs.

After completing high school in 2001, Matt began his apprenticeship as a refrigeration and air conditioning

technician. In 2006 he traveled overseas working at a summer camp where he was employed as a lifeguard. In 2008 he jumped into the Sydney property market buying his first home. He currently resides in Sydney where he spends his spare time “looking for my wife.”

A wife should be: Your best mate, your lover and your soul mate... someone who you can’t wait to get home to.

My celebrity bride would be: Natalie Portman... I like natural beauty, so someone who is naturally beautiful like Natalie.
