Law & Order rips plot straight from the headlines... again

"Long-running crime drama Law and Order will draw inspiration from talk show host David Letterman's scandalous affair in its 20th season.

In October, Letterman announced that he had been the victim of an alleged blackmail attempt by a man threatening to reveal that Letterman had had affairs with several of his female employees. Letterman admitted that the allegation was true, apologising for the affairs on his self-titled talk show.

According to Entertainment Weekly , the sensational affair will provide the basis of an upcoming Law and Order episode — with a few key differences.

For starters, L&O 's talk show host will reportedly be a fortysomething woman who's having a lesbian fling with a younger female co-workers. Things go awry when somebody involved in the affair winds up dead.

It's not the first time that the seminal crime drama has ripped one of its mysteries from the headlines: previous episodes fictionalised celebrity misfortunes such as the deaths of Anna-Nicole Smith and Heath Ledger, and Mel Gibson's arrest.
