Doctor Who heads to American TV

" Doctor Who leading man David Tennant is set to make his American television debut.

According to the Hollywood Reporter , Tennant will take on the lead role in the upcoming legal pilot Rex is Not Your Lawyer . He'll play Rex Alexander, "a top Chicago litigator who begins suffering panic attacks and takes up coaching clients to represent themselves in court".

US network greenlit the Rex pilot in August and had spent several months trying to find a suitable leading man for the project before Tennant was hired.

Tennant will have to do an American accent for the role — which won't be a problem for the Scottish actor, who already puts on an English accent for his role in Doctor Who .

The 38-year-old has played the time-travelling Doctor since 2005, the 10th actor to play the role in the program's four-and-a-half-decade run. In 2006, fans voted him the best Doctor ever.

However, Tennant will vacate the role at the end of 2009 and be replaced by 26-year-old actor Matt Smith. Before he leaves the series, Tennant will appear in two more Doctor Who specials: The Waters of Mars and The End of Time .

Doctor Who airs on ABC2 and UKTV."

Tragic. Dr. Who without David is almost as bad as Dr. Who without Tim Baker. I'm devastated. Who next will help re-invent the best TV series ever? All doctors are Special.

Well, I certainly didn't vote for him as 'the best doctor ever.' Pertwee was the best doctor of all time as he often wrote the episodes himself and he changed the whole feel of the show. Oh, I'm sure many will say Baker was and yes Baker was excellent. I think the only good thing about Tennant as doctor was that he brought young fans in... though there was too much 'drama' created with facial expressions in the Tennant series'. At leas ...

In the UK we have been aware since 2008 that David Tenant will be leaving Doctor Who I'm not suprised to hear he is trying his luck in roles in the USA but feel he would be better off in theatre roles instead of TV, there are better roles than you can sometimes get in TV.
