Top Model's blackface controversy

"Going blackface, it seems, is the new black.

Entertainment Tonight reports that the latest episode of America's Next Top Model — which is hosted by black supermodel Tyra Banks — transforms its contestants "into bi-racial models" via the magic of make-up.

"Meaning: some of the models are in blackface," translates feminist blog Jezebel.

Pictures sourced by _ET_ show several of the models adorned in stereotypically African garb, including headscarves and bone necklaces.

US network The CW and Banks did not comment on the controversial challenge, though Entertainment Weekly notes that it's not the first time the Top Model contestants have undergone racial transformations. "[The series] has historically been pretty tone-deaf about how problematic and often offensive images like this can be," wrote an EW columnist.

Blackface has been a frequent topic of conversation lately: the second episode of the Hey Hey it's Saturday reunion depicted a group called the Jackson Jive performing in blackface as part of the Red Faces segment, which kicked off a storm of controversy.

John Safran also donned black make-up in an episode of his new series John Safran's Race Relations , in an attempt to experience life as a black person."

I think these girls should just be themselves wear what they want have to admit I do not agree with this in my view natural beauty with a touch of make up works best.

I'm sorry, I must have missed something, because isn't racism supposed to be fuelled by hate? If I dress up as a black person, asian person or anything else for that matter does it automatically make me a white supremist?? I doubt very much that what Tyra Banks has done with her show has anything to do with racism, since she is in fact black. Think the US should stop worrying about people who are just having fun (having fun - NOT making fun of!) and focus more energy on tho ...

If it is good enough for Michael Jackson who had dark skin and was an entertainer to change his appearance to be white, then how come when white entertainer's change their appearance to be dark skinned seems to be wrong . But then again, look who love to tell other nation's how to live their lives ( Namely the Yanks)

I think the Media has played a huge part in everything that is reported because apparently it seems we cant do anything right. We cant pretend were black, we cant speak our minds in case we offend others. What next??
