Yellow peril? Writer says Simpsons should be cancelled

"John Ortved loves The Simpsons so much he wrote a book about it — but even he admits that the long-running cartoon has slipped in quality in recent seasons.

"They should have canned it 10 years ago," said Ortved, the 29-year-old author of The Simpsons: An Uncensored, Unauthorized History , in an interview with The New York Times .

"To be fair to the writers, there's only so much you can do with a set of characters," he said. "I mean, 20 years? I don't know how they do it."

Ortved added that he wasn't impressed with The Simpsons Movie , which hit cinemas in 2007.

"It was 90 minutes of throwaway jokes," he lamented. "It was about as good as a very good episode in the later seasons, but I don't think it worked. It's kind of shocking to me that that group of writers couldn't come up with something better."

But Ortved is still a big fan of early episodes, praising classic lines including, " Does whiskey count as beer?" and "Me fail English? That's unpossible".

The Simpsons airs on Network Ten and FOX8."

Just curious. Why does everyone (incorrectly) say "then" instead of "than" these days? What are English teachers playing at? Not having a go at hsimpson220, because it is absolutely everywhere, one radio news reader even pronounces it that way :(
