"Move over, So You Think You Can Dance - there's another dancing competition coming to TV, and it's bigger than anything you've seen before... literally.

The Nine Network has announced that it's importing Dance Your Ass Off , the US reality series in which 12 overweight contestants dance to lose weight.

Hosted by actress Marissa Jaret Winokur, best known for originating the role of Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway musical Hairspray , Dance Your Ass Off combines SYTYCD with The Biggest Loser .

Each week contestants are paired with professionals who train them in a particular genre, such as hip-hop, ballroom or pole dancing. The fatties then show off their moves in front of a live studio audience and a panel of judges, who give them a score.

Those scores are then combined with the amount of weight the contestant has lost in the last week, and the person with the lowest overall score is sent packing. The ultimate winner walks away with a tinier waistline and a US$100,000 ($124,000) prize.

"[The contestants] are having the time of their life and they are shedding weight," said producer Sally Ann Salsano, who has also struggled with weight issues.
