Neil Patrick Harris: Emmys host?

"Actor Neil Patrick Harris is in talks with US broadcaster CBS to host this year's Primetime Emmy Awards.

Variety reports that while an official deal is yet to be cut, the network is extremely keen to see the How I Met Your Mother star front the awards ceremony.

Harris is no stranger to awards nights: in 2008 he hosted the smaller-scale Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony, in April he hosted the TV Land Awards, and in June he hosted the Tony Awards, which celebrate achievements in American theatre.

"I love the hosting thing. I've gotten to do a lot of it this year. I'm enjoying it," Harris told the New York Times prior to fronting the Tonys.

US TV Week magazine gushed that Harris would be a "stunning choice" to oversee the Emmys, describing him as "charming, funny, and ... fully in command of his audience".

In 2008 the Primetime Emmys were hosted by reality TV presenters Ryan Seacrest, Heidi Klum, Jeff Probst, Tom Bergeron and Howie Mandel, a decision that was generally panned by critics.

The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards will be held at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre on Sunday, September 20."
