Lily Allen joining Doctor Who?

"Is pop star Lily Allen joining Doctor Who for an interstellar romp in the TARDIS? Now that the BBC has finally revealed the name of the man who will play the 11th Doctor - 26-year-old actor Matt Smith - speculation has begun about who will play his companion. According to UK paper the Telegraph , BBC bosses are keen to pair up the little-known Smith with a high-profile show business name, and the notoriously cheeky Allen is reportedly at the top of their list. Allen, 23, was considered as companion in the fourth season of Doctor Who , but the part ultimately went to comedienne Catherine Tate. If Allen does land the role, it wouldn't be the first time a popstar has joined the series: Billie Piper played companion Rose Tyler in multiple seasons, while Kylie Minogue guest-starred in the 2007 Christmas special Voyage of the Damned . "Having got the casting of the Doctor out of the way, the companion role is where we will be looking next," Doctor Who executive producer Piers Wenger told the Telegraph . "Someone terribly exciting like Billie Piper, who was at the beginning of her acting career but who had a profile for other reasons, would be great." Other contenders to become Smith's sidekick are singer Rachel Stevens, model Agyness Deyn and presenter Kelly Brook. It's also possible that an older woman could join the series — Helen Mirren and Jennifer Saunders' names have been thrown in the mix. The Doctor Who special episode The Next Doctor airs on ABC1 on January 25 at 7.30pm."
