DWTS and XFactor are both inaccessible so I hope we still have this one where we can meet and have a chat about all things MKR-related or not!

Hi Angels and Hi again to you Shammy!

Hope we can use this thread to talk about all sorts of things food/cooking-related as well as anything else that might crop up in between shows or during the series which does not relate to food, etc.!

@ Angels ...... did you post by that nick-name at XF? I can't say I remember ever having exchanged posts with you (but then again I have a terrible memory for names ...... excellent with numbers but hopeless with names! lol! I really am!)

Look forward to chatting with you both and everyone else too in the days to come and then right throughout the series too!

Cheers for now!

Hey Angels .... you were a "Caramello bear" fan like Sham and I (and many others besides too!) Hahaha! Yes, he's a good singer and just needs time to develop his own unique style. Some voice projection tuition wouldn't go astray either, but hey .... this is the MKR site so let's forget last year's goings on with the XFActor show and its contestants! (I can't believe they're still at it "hammer and tongs" on that forum about Altiyan and Sally ........ sheesh ..... it's almost as though the world stopped spinning when Altiyan won and Sally lost for their respective fans! Hahahaha!

Catch you again soon Angels! And I promise I'll remember your name when next we meet!

Hi Angels! Apparently if you are using Internet Explorer the emoticons do not work here. The recommended web browsers for the Yahoo forums are Mozilla Firefox or Google's Chrome.

Not sure about Chrome but I use Firefox and it is free to download!

If you are a little bit geeky yourself or have a techie friend, it is very easy to download and install.

Good luck sweetie!

Morning guys!

I was wondering if any of you caught the segment on Today Tonight last night regarding the sale of Halal chickens. It seems that more and more retail outlets for fresh chicken products and restaurants/take-away chains are now using Halal chickens, which, in essence, means that when they are slaughtered the name of Allah (the Islamic word for God) is used as a means to thank Him for the food he has provided us. This is very much in keeping with the Christian practice of saying "Grace" prior to a meal.

It was a fascinating story because the Reverend Fred Nile has placed himself in the "against" the sale/consumption of Halal meat category (together with another Christian Aussie bloke who was interviewed on the show and was livid that he and his children are, inadvertently, being subjected to having this "Muslim" connection), whilst Catholic and Anglican Priests/Ministers said they have no problem either with the humane way that the chickens are slaughtered or the fact that Allah's name is used in the process, and they also have no problem in eating these products. It's interesting and relevant to note that Fred Nile, on the one hand, is telling his followers to not eat this meat because of the reference to the Islamic God (Allah) and yet he, himself had been photographed attending an Islamic function and happily eating away at all the Halal meat which would have been served there on that occasion.

I know that we have lots more to worry about on this day for our fellow countrymen in Queensland, but I was just wondering how you feel about going to Woolies and picking up a (Halal) chook (fresh or bbq'ed) or going to McDonalds and eating a (Halal) chicken burger.

Care factor for me: Zilch!! (And just for the record, no, I am not a Muslim, I am a Catholic, albeit a non-practising one, and to me the Christian "God" = the Islamic "Allah" = the Jewish "Yahweh" .... ie, They're one and the same Deity!)

Is this a worrying issue/development for you? Just wondering.

Oooohhhh, Andie ... you are a

Controversial subject. My great grandpappy always told me never to get into a discussion over religion, politics or football.

You should post this on a religious forum, they would love it.

Good morning Andie, Just read your post and it doesn't affect me as i don't buy Mc Donalds and i only buy chicken from Coles, are their slaughter ways the same as everyone else or do they leave them to bleed to death, i have heard that they are rather brutal i don't like to hear of any animal suffering, i saw on tv what they do to our sheep and it is heart breaking.

Hi Whtsey! It's not exactly about religion or theology it's about eating chicken with a religious undertone! Thought It'd be interesting to hear what our fellow posters (foodies) thought about this. I'm no , lol, I'm an ....... yeah, right!

@ CG ...... the slaughtering process is swift and humane and is in keeping with all other (non-Halal) slaughter practices. The chickens are slaughtered first and then when they are dead, they are hung to allow the blood to drain ...... same as the way we slaughter all of our livestock. Only difference is that while they are being slaughtered the name of Allah is raised as a sign of thanksgiving.

If I were to witness the slaughtering process of any animal I swear that I wouldn't be able to eat any meat at all but, being the imperfect human being that I am, the saying, "what I don't know doesn't hurt me" applies. It's sad, I know.

@Whitsey (again!) - I love your grandpappy's saying but didn't he get the last word "football" mixed up with sex!? Hahaha! Grandpappy sounds like a southern Yankee term so is football more controversial than sex where you come from?!

Halal is for everyone.
Ha!
Where a vocal 2% tries to dictate how the other 98% lives.

Google 'caliphate' and 'ask an imam' to see how far it is intended to go - the prescription of every mundane and important activity in your life.

Also have a look at 'taqiyya'

We should fight this totalitarian agenda (and rampant misogny) with all of our strength.

@ Andie ......  hahahahaha .... football is more contraversial that sex everywhere, isn't it?

From where my family comes from the term is papa. I just prefer pappy.

Halal slaughter is a religious ritual. Most people objecting to it will do so on the grounds of having religion forced upon them. It is not all humane either. Check out this link:

@ Whitsey - Yes, where I come from we use the term papa` for father and nonno for grandpappy! lol!

Thanks for that link Whitsey ..... had a good read of it and then looked at Kosher slaughtering methods and if you ask me, when it comes to chickens, I think Halal  more humane ..... at least they are pre-stunned.

That said, I shouldn't really have read that material because I now feel very upset that the meat on our table gets there after so much distress and pain is caused to our livestock.

It's a moot point though because whichever method is used Halal, Kosher or conventional European, the animals still suffer and for as long as we continue to eat meat they will continue to do so at our hands.

In any case, I didn't necessarily raise this issue to discuss the ins and outs of which slaughtering method should be used because, unfortunately, they're all fundamentally the same to my way of thinking, but rather to gauge the philosophical reaction to chicken meat which ends up on our table after having been slaughtered in the name of "Allah" as opposed to meat which slaughtered without any reference to any Deity.

I mean no disrespect to any religious group and I am a firm believer that we each have a choice with regard to the religion that we practice, if we do in fact practice any at all.
