Sunday night's episode of MasterChef Australia saw the return of the cube taste test, the misidentification of both pumpkin and beetroot and the surprise elimination of nurse-turned-home cook Lily Davies. However, the Brit's elimination was not the only surprise the episode had in store as an intriguing piece of information was exposed about a different contestant.

Having been thrust into the elimination round after failing to identify a lemon in the cube test, fan favourite Juan De La Cruz whipped up Assado Argentino with domino potatoes in an attempt to stay in the game. During the judge's taste test of his dish, it was revealed that Juan was on the Argentinian version of PopStars when he was just 17 years old.

Fans of the show were quick to share their delight at the news as Channel Ten added some photos of Juan's pop past to Instagram.

"That's amazing!" one fan wrote.

"I am dying 😂😂😂😂😂 Last photo! You are everything!," wrote fellow contestant Snezana Calic.

"He’s got it all," said another.

Said another, "This is epic."

Even judge Poh Ling Yeow - who was the one to first mention Juan's past reality stint - chimed in writing, "Of course u used to be a pop star!!!"

Over on Facebook one fan admitted to doing their own research into the revelation writing, "Even I, being from Argentina, googled him. that's our "multitasker" Juan."

Several people were quick to point out how different Juan looked in his Popstar days with one person writing, "Mate that 3rd pic 😂👌" under the Instagram carousel posted by MasterChef.

"The 3rd pic is gold @delacruzcooks," another chuckled. "I can just imagine you belting out Backstreet Boys looking like this 😂."

Of course he does!
