Aussie actress Deborra-Lee Furness has shared what life has been like since her split from ex-husband Hugh Jackman. The pair announced their divorce last year, revealing they would be splitting up after 27 years together.

Speaking with People Magazine at a screening of her film Force of Nature: The Dry 2, the actress shared what she's learned since the pair split, saying, "[I learned] that I’m strong and resilient."

She added that her two children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, who she shares with Hugh, are very supportive of her work as an actress and have watched the sequel to The Dry "several times."

Deborra-Lee also shared that she was very drawn to the film because it features a " female-driven ensemble of actors."

"I love playing women that are great role models for younger girls," she said. "Women are great leaders or women can do this. So, I like to play women who've got something to say."

In an interview with Page Six at the same screening, she shared that she's been "learning a lot about myself and I’m embracing evolution and growth".

While she described this year as a "year of evolution", she also shared that it had been "scary" and "every other adjective", but she was "grateful" for the opportunity to grow as a person.

She also shared that she was navigating the split with the help of her friends, with the star saying, "I say this to all women — your girlfriends are a necessity in life."

Deborra-Lee and Hugh initially revealed the news of their split in a statement shared with People Magazine, which read, "We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth."

Speaking about that growth, Deborra told Yahoo Lifestyle earlier this year that she has "big plans" for the future.

"I've got a few [projects] up my sleeve, I'm working on a script with Rebecca Rigg, which I want to direct and act in," she told us.

She also hinted that her character in The Dry 2 might return in the third film in the series, saying, "And who knows there might be a reprisal from the character I play [in Force of Nature]. Hey, maybe another sequel from a character I played many years ago in Shame."

When asked if she had a list of people she'd like to work with, she said, "Of course, I've got a great buffet of great actors to choose from in Australia... I'd love to come back here."

She added that the film she is creating with Rebecca will be set in Australia, so she's excited to begin work on that, but couldn't share more details.
