An Aussie mum is making waves after her request that her son's football club do away with the traditional post-game sausage sizzle in favour of a vegan one. YouTuber and activist Sheena Chhabra made the surprising demand in an email to South Melbourne Districts Auskick, and was told that she was welcome to bring her own vegan sausages to the event.

However, her 7-year-old son, who is also vegan, said that he did not want to have food that had been cooked on the same grill plate as meat. This was a bit of a problem given that there was only one barbeque at the club.

"I've requested that if sausages must be served, which I believe is not essential at a morning event, we swap out the regular sausages for vegan ones," Chhabra said in a statement to 9 News.

Her request was met with a fair amount of ridicule and backlash online as people questioned why it had to be her way or the highway.

"Typical, expecting everyone else to conform to her views," someone wrote on Facebook. "Won’t consider a compromise to make everyone happy."

Added another, "She should either bring her own or ask the club to provide some along with the meat ones or go without. Not enforce vegan sausages onto others."

"I'm the only vegan in my family so I supply my own sausages and a foil tray that my family happily put on the hot plate & cook my sausages in the foil tray," wrote someone else. "Why should my family accommodate me. It's not difficult to come up with a solution that works."

"Mum needs to get over her sense of entitlement," another person simply said.

"Vegans want people to cater them but won't do the same when the tables are turned," fumed another person. "She can bring her own."

Another person reasoned, "I believe everyone should be accommodated but to a point if she is willing to fork out money for another bbq and gas and all then the club can accommodate."

Others were adamant that she should simply bring her own with one person suggesting, "Just bring your own BBQ and vegan sausages, it's not that hard. Maybe you would convert some people."

"If she wants vegan sausages, she should bring her own instead of telling everyone to do what she wants," another person weighed in.

One helpful person even went so far as to offer up a possible solution writing, "Bring your own sausages and ask to cook them first. Wipe down the grill before turning it on if you are concerned about cross contamination. Either that or bring a small grill for your own sausages. There are ways around it – choices whether positive or negative have consequences and this is one of them for being in a minority."

Chhabra became vegan after discovering the cruelty that animals face in the production of meat, eggs and dairy and said that she believes more kids would also want to be vegan if they knew more about how certain foods are made.

“Everyone has a personal choice, however children are largely unaware of these issues and what happens to animals, so they rely on their parents to make informed choices, and I think most children would choose to eat differently if they knew about these issues," she said in a statement.
