Hi everyone

It’s very difficult for me to write today as Kirsty lost her baby. I was terrified that she became sick after eating at the Diner. My fridge was faulty and so I had to throw out all the food, but I didn’t realise until Kirsty, Miles, Rachel and Tony had bought some for their dinner party.

I went to see Miles and I could barely get the words out through my tears. He was shocked at first, but then was gracious enough to re-assure me that it wasn’t the food that made her sick, but the cause is still unknown. I don’t know how they are going to cope with this grief; I just hope they can support each other.

Another shock was the discovery of 12 bodies in the hold of a sunken boat. Hugo’s schooner had been cut from it’s mooring during the storm and Angelo said there had been a report of a boat off the reef near the island, where Geoff and Nicole were stranded last year. They went to investigate and made this gruesome discovery.

Whilst they were bringing the bodies ashore, Martha said Angelo spotted the Indonesian guy they call ‘Clint’, he had been watching them and then tried to run. Fortunately they managed to catch him and when he saw Hugo at the station, he started ranting in Indonesian. Martha said it was quite frightening, she couldn’t understand why seemed so upset with Hugo. When she asked, Hugo said he had no idea either, but guessed he recognised him for the time in the hospital a few months ago. I heard later that he escaped from the holding cell, so now we have a possible criminal on the loose in Summer Bay!

To add to my sadness this week, we had to say goodbye to Jai and Annie. After many ‘on again’, ‘off again’ conversations, it finally turned out that both of them could go to Japan. Irene was worried about Annie being too young to go alone as she has barely been out of Summer Bay, so she is going to chaperone her for a few weeks, just to get her settled. Colleen, Ollie and I bawled our eyes out as they left, and even Geoff was a little teary.

Our younger residents have had some drama this week. Liam distracted Nicole so much that she was 20 minutes late for her HSC exam. Aden gave him a real serve and soon after, Nicole said that Liam had dumped her!

Ruby has been diagnosed with diabetes. Geoff and Charlie found her passed out on the bed at home. The doctor said she could have died if they hadn’t found her when they did.

Geoff won’t leave her side and I think their relationship is moving on from friendship, especially after Ruby found out that Xavier had faked his amnesia and knew all along that she wanted to break up with him.

It was Election Day today and we are all now trying to cope with the shock that Martha lost! We were so confident that she had won, we had already popped the champagne, and then John Palmer strolled in to let us know that he was the new councilor for Summer Bay. I can’t imagine what life is going to be like with him in charge!

More next week,

Take care
