Disappointingly, we learned nothing new regarding the relationship between Simon and Lloyd or their supposed involvement in the blackout. Instead, much of this episode was based around fears created and stemming from Agent Mark Bedford’s previous, and potentially future, alcoholism. Olivia and Aaron had a tense conversation about Mark’s potential fall from the wagon, and both confessed their fears that it may happen easily as the similarities to his last stumble are striking.

Aaron points out, “Mark’s an alcoholic; he doesn’t need a reason to drink, he drinks because he drinks.” Was Aaron simply trying to prepare her for the inevitable? Was he the person who texted Olivia telling him Mark was drinking in his flashforward, as only he and Stan seem to be aware of this fact? And why didn’t Aaron set the code 0312 correctly as Olivia had asked him?

Mark finally confesses to his boss that the reason his memories of his flash are hazy is due to the fact that he was intoxicated, causing Stan to realize he has put his support behind drunken recollections. Considering how much he had put on the line for the Senate hearing in this episode, it was no wonder Stan was so upset. However, last week’s episode saw hospital interns discussing the proposed use of a calcineurin antagonist to enhance one’s memories of what they saw during their flash; could we see Mark undergo this treatment in order to more vividly recall what he witnessed?

Why is it that Mark seems to have been the only person aware that the flash had occurred while he was experiencing it? All the other flashes we’ve witnessed have been completely devoid of recognition of the event, as if the event were being experienced without prior knowledge of what would occur, the opposite of Mark’s experience...

We also learnt Stan can have a short temper, brought out by his strong dislike of Washington DC, stating that you can’t get anything without giving something back. In order to get the President’s support, therefore overstepping Senator Clemente’s hearings and secure the funding Mosaic needs, Stan plays dirty by digging up an old secret. At some point in the past while working closely with the as-yet-unelected Dave Segovia, Stan was asked to pay off a young woman who Dave had fathered a son with during an illicit affair. Stan goes to visit the woman and son, collecting a photo of Dave with the woman lying in his lap to use for blackmail against the President.

The blackmail works and he secures the funding, but at the cost of the vice-president’s position. The original vice-president having died during the blackout, the president was keen to fill the role and initially offered it to Stan. He instead selects Senator Clemente, a bitter enemy of Stan’s. Interestingly, Clemente tells Stan that in her flash forward she witnessed herself as President, believing it to be false. Strangely, we also saw that Dave appeared to still be President on April 29th, being awoken by a Secret Serviceman with news of a problem.

We also now know that Mark wasn’t the only FBI agent in the building during the flash. Under polygraph, Agent Vreede reveals that he witnessed himself leaving the office via the security door, having worked late. Like Mark, he saw and noted the date closely. I don’t know why, but his story strikes me as being somewhat suspicious. Can anyone else make out the security code he entered? So far I’ve been able to place 4 2 * * * E...

In a thrilling showdown set to Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone”, masked gunmen attempt to murder several characters. Who were the shooters, staging synchronized attacks on the FBI agents that had created the Mosaic Collective? It certainly seems to imply that they are on the correct path, but who organized the hit? Could they be linked to the shooters Mark saw in his flash? Could the hit have been in retaliation to the hacker Cheeto Dust’s snooping, approved in secret by Mark, of the CIA’s database?

Speaking of which, the hacking appeared to have paid off in a big way as the satellite imagery of Somalia show strange 100-foot tall pylons being constructed in the middle of nowhere over several months in 1991, arranged in the shape of a star. Is this a clue that the pylons were a construct of the people with the star tattoo we’ve seen before?

Janis’s story gained a fair amount of momentum this week as we received confirmation of her sexuality and the pregnancy complications that stem from it; as she herself confesses to her (way too stalker-y) short-term girlfriend, she hasn’t been with a man since she was in high school. None of this may matter though as she lay writhing in a pool of her own blood. Could she die, showing us that the future isn’t set in stone? If she lives, will the wound mean she’ll be unable to fall pregnant, or could it lead her to believe she is unable, leading her to try?

Has anyone noticed what is on Janis' right arm?? (on the inside) It looks like a tatoo in the shape of three circles (also looking like the size of the stars on the shooters arm) I'm sorry if this has already been brought up but I havn't seen anything so I thought I should ask.
