Aussie woman dispels TikTok myth about dating a 'man in finance, with a trust fund, 6'5'', blue eyes'

Kristina opened up about what it's like to date a finance worker after a TikTok video went viral.

If you use social media, chances are you've heard the viral sound of a woman looking for a "man in finance, with a trust fund, six-[foot]-five, blue eyes". The song suggests that dating someone in that industry will mean less financial pressure for them, more fun, and probably more disposable income to enjoy.

But an Aussie woman has issued a message to people about what it's actually like to be with someone in finance. Kristina's husband works in the industry and she said you can forget those dreams of retiring in your 20s or 30s and spending all of your partner's hard-earned cash.

She said you usually reap the rewards later in life.

"They are looking ahead, your future is wonderful," she said.

"They are making sure we retire early and we can live a good life. And I'll tell you what your 30s look like. Girl any discretionary spending...no, no. You know what happens in your 30s? You invest, honey you have stock, you're paying off that HECS, you're adding into your super, your kids have bank accounts that they can't touch until they are 25."

She explained all the money coming into the household has a "purpose" and if you want to spend that cash then "you gotta work" as well.

Katrina said it's great dating someone in finance because they're always protecting the household's future and they love a spreadsheet.

But she wanted to dispel the myth that you can happily give up all your responsibilities and rely on them.

"If you're looking for a finance boy so you can spend, it's not going to happen," she explained.

The comments section of her video was filled with other current or former finance workers who said the same thing.

"As a finance guy: correct. My money buys us tomorrow, my wife’s money buys us today," said one bloke.

"As a previous career finance guy… this is accurate. Annualised bills and spending on a spreadsheet divided by pay frequency + bonuses allocated to others in advance," wrote another.

"I’m a finance wifey and omg the accuracy" added a third.

Kristina admitted the only part about her advice that doesn't apply to the viral TikTok video is if a finance worker has a trust fund, as that could certainly change their outlook on and availability of cash.

Her video comes after New York-based TikToker Megan Boni uploaded a short clip to the app where she said the now-iconic line.

It was less of a desire to find someone in finance and was more about how it sounds like lyrics to a modern pop-dance song. She asked in the video whether she had just written the "song of the summer" and it's been remixed by multiple people in the weeks since the original video was posted.

“I was trying to make fun of those girls who say that they’re not high maintenance or that they want a boyfriend, but then they have a long-ass list of needs that are insane," she told TODAY.com.

“I really think I was just making fun of people in my generation who are single who have these insane needs."
