Dancing with the Stars went into super star overdrive in the penultimate episode of the season, with Academy Award winning gladiator Russell Crowe paying a surprise visit to wife Danielle Spencer with the couple’s children Tennyson and Charlie at the end of the show.

Australia’s superstar housewife Dame Edna also took to the floor tonight, casting a fierce eye over our celebrity dancers.

With her known unpredictability, Dame Edna wasted no time lending a helpful word of advice to our competitors.

Tonight our dancers each performed two numbers, putting to the test who still has the moves in Week 9.

But the time was up for fan favourite and footy superstar Brendan Fevola, who bowed out of the competition one week shy of the Grand Final.

“Ten weeks ago I never thought I’d be here,” he said. “Obviously a lot of thanks goes to Jess and how she puts up with me everyday. I’ve just had an absolute ball… my charity is Life Education and we’ve raised a lot of money for them.”

Johnny Ruffo and his partner Luda Kroitor opened the show with a spicy Jive tonight. “You’re so funny and adorable. It was perfect, I loved it,” judge Joshua Horner said.

Dancing darling and Packed to the Rafters star Zoe Cramond was next to take to the floor with a Tango dedicated to her father who was in the audience. “He has every reason to be proud of you,” Todd McKenney commented, while Helen Richey added: “I thought you captured the essence of (the dance).”

Brendan had a dancing mishap this week with partner Jessica Raffa suffering a serious injury after she fell during rehearsals. Their resulting tentative dance showed. “It all sort of went haywire,” Helen said, while Todd added, “We love you Fev, we love you… but you looked unfocussed tonight.”

Danielle’s Tango was slightly amiss tonight although the judge’s admitted her dancing left little room for error. “We just expect perfection from you guys because you’re capable of delivering it,” Todd said, while Helen said the dance was “close to perfect”.

In their second performances of the night, our celebrities raised the bar with knockout dances – Zoe taking out her second perfect score of 30 for the season, with Danielle one behind on 29.
