Securing the coveted role as a new female detective on City Homicide has provided an opportunity for Nadia Townsend to showcase her talents to a solid fan base and work with an experienced cast and production team – an essential ingredient for building on a burgeoning television career. Working on City Homicide also ensures Nadia will continue to reside in Melbourne where she first moved in 2008 to complete a post graduate degree in Theatre Directing at the Victorian College of the Arts.

“Working on City Homicide is a blessing. I get to work with veteran actors like Noni Hazlehurst and Nadine Garner as well as having the opportunity to play with some of the finest actors from all around Australia and even New Zealand,” says Nadia.

“Every day is vastly different. From doing action packed raids with guns and cars and physical fights to intense, heavy dialogue-driven psychological interviews.

“Allie is a great character to play because you never quite know how she will deal with a situation. A man holding a knife at her throat is not a problem but then she will crumble when a suspect points out her personal failures.

“It seems the writers enjoy putting Allie up to the challenge”, explains Nadia.

Nadia’s introduction to the small screen was in 2001 playing a regular role in the ABC drama series Head Start. She also starred in Fireflies for the ABC working under the widely respected executive producer John Edwards.

In 1999, Nadia travelled to the United States to study at the Atlantic Theatre Company under William H. Macy. The experience inspired Nadia to start up her own theatre company, ‘Magnolia Productions’, and produce and act in her own shows, including Loss and Gloss, starring Nadia and her sister, producer and actress Lisbeth Kennelly.

This year, Nadia appeared in the US produced film Knowing, playing Grace Koestler, opposite Hollywood star Nicolas Cage. Other film credits include Puppy, an off-beat love story in which Nadia starred alongside Melbourne actor Bernard Curry.
