This groundbreaking series from the makers of Border Security - Australia's Frontline follows the men and women in blue in their constant fight for law and order. The program gives viewers a fascinating insight into the challenges and day-to-day working life of police officers who risk their own lives to reduce crime and make the community safer.
Executive producer Dan Meenan says the second series of THE FORCE - BEHIND THE LINE promises to be bigger and better thanks to the extraordinary access the police have allowed Channel 7 cameras.
This unprecedented access has produced some of the best stories yet according to Dan. "The footage is truly remarkable. Now with one series under our belt and because the police are so comfortable with our cameras, our production crew has become almost invisible. When you watch the show it's like you're right in the thick of all the action and emotion."
What's amazing about this new series is that it not only has access to the suspects committing the crimes but also to their loved ones. Series producer Geraldine Orrock says this will give viewers a fascinating insight into the machinations of the criminal mind.
"It's amazing that we've actually been allowed to talk to the suspects about how they feel and what they're going through," she says. "We also talk to their nearest and dearest, their partners, families and the police throughout the process. It highlights how the police work with the community, not against it. Behind their guns and their badges, they are human beings."
Like its predecessors Border Security - Australia's Frontline and Medical Emergency, THE FORCE - BEHIND THE LINE maintains the network's outstanding reputation in observational documentaries. "Channel 7 is a leader in this genre," Dan says.
Weekend Sunrise newsreader and It's Academic host Simon Reeve returns as presenter of THE FORCE - BEHIND THE LINE. Dan Meenan believes Simon proved in the first series that he is a perfect fit for the show. "He is a respected journalist - his credentials are impeccable and, above everything else, the man is a storyteller who ties everything together in the show."
Simon says he's immensely proud to front a show that is so finely produced and shows Australian police officers in such a positive light. "It's given me a tremendously deep appreciation of the job police do in this day and age," he says.
