During the Australia's Got Talent heats the judges have a buzzer in front of them which they use to 'strike' the act from continuing.
Approximately 24 acts perform per episode and the judges select acts they think worthy of making it through to the next stage.
At the beginning of the semi-final episodes the judges will make their final decision on just who will get a chance to perform in that week's semi-final. Not all successful contestants from the heats will be offered a position.
In the semi-final episodes two finalists will be chosen per episode to go through to the Grand Final. The judges will choose one act and the viewer vote will decide the second.

But why do we see so much of the audience and of the judges? What a waste of television!
And why the heck do we get told of 'other acts' that were shown and passed? Quite frankly, the show's current format is not sufficient to make me watch again.
24 acts per episode? What a crock! We might tune in again next week, but if after 15 minutes it's the same as tonight, we'll definitely tune out!.
PEDRO ROX!! lol at the sexy back theme song classic :P
