Maxi Rocket

Maxi Rocket

What you need:

* An empty 1L plastic bottle
* A cork that fits tightly into the bottle
* 2 plastic rings - you can usually get these off milk or juice bottles.
* Electrical tape
* A spare broom handle
* A hammer - make sure you have adult supervision when using this.
* 1 cup vinegar
* 1/4 cup baking soda
* Paper towel or serviette

What you do:

* MAKING THE LAUNCH PAD - Tape both rings to the side of your plastic bottle and reinforce the hold with electrical tape. Then, hammer the broom handle into the ground but make sure you get help from and adult. (You can also put the broom handle into a bucket of soil or sand like we did)
* GET THE ROCKET FUEL READY - Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the bottle (your rocket) Put 1/4 cup of baking soda onto the paper towel and spread it into a long finger shape. Then, roll up the paper towel (baking soda is still inside) folding the ends over.
* BLAST OFF - (You've got to do this bit really quickly so make sure you're ready will all the parts) Put the rolled up paper towel into the bottle, secure the cork on top, turn the bottle upside down and slide the rings over the broom handle. STAND BACK and watch your rocket fly!!

This experiment is lots of fun but please make sure you do have an adult around when you are doing it and stand well clear of the rocket before take off.
