You see, Earl (Jason Lee), bought a winning lottery ticket a while back, but then he got hit by a car and lost it. Lying in hospital, he hears a music show host talking about karma and decides he needs to make some life changes.
Karma? Yeah, it's the idea that doing good brings good to you and doing bad brings... well, bad stuff to you.
And Earl's done a lot of bad stuff. Like faking his death to break up with a girl, making a kid scared of the boogeyman and shooting Gwen Waters in the ass with a BB gun.
So this jobless bum with no respect for anyone starts giving good deeds a whirl and immediately finds his missing lottery ticket. Seeing it as a sign, Earl draws up a list of all the bad things he's done to people and sets off to right all his wrongs. With a little help (and hindrance) from his friends of course.
Randy (Ethan Supplee) is Earl's half-witted brother who assists him on his mission. He's kind of like an oafish Robin to Earl's hillbilly Batman. But despite his poor intelligence, he often says profound things. He has a schoolboy crush on Catalina and an extreme fear of birds.
Catalina (Nadine Velazquez) is a maid at the motel where Earl and Randy currently live. She's an illegal who entered the United States on January 1st, 2000 (just as Earl and the gang assumed they were the last humans alive). She learned English a year ago and has a fear of snakes and rape.
Joy (Jaime Pressly) is Earl's ex-wife, and mother of Dodge and Earl Jr, neither of which are Earl's biological children. She operates a nail parlor in her home. Though she puts on a front of extreme self-centeredness, she fully appreciates the people around her, even Earl. She knows how to fight too.
Darnell (Eddie Steeples) aka "The Crab-Man" Works as a cook at the local Crab Shack. He's Joy's new husband and the father of Earl Jr. Although generally calm and soft-spoken, he is actually quite intelligent. He has a fondness for cheese and a pet turtle.
Making up for the things he's done to his friends is on his list too. The question is, is Earl motivated only by his desire to reap the benefits of good karma or does he really just want to make up for all the bad things he's done to people?
What do you think?
