Hannah is someone who has polarised the public since she stepped into Model Mansion – the question is, are you ready to forgive and forget?
It's interesting reading the message boards. One of the biggest issues plaguing them is still Hannah and the Champagne – or as I like to think of it, 'The Great Bolly Debacle.'
While Jackie was seething with justified indignation at the time, she was placated when Hannah offered up a letter of apology. Not so, you dedicated fans. Because from what I've read, you either like Hannah, and the 'Bolly Debacle' never fazed you, or you saw it happen and became an instant Hannah Hater. There doesn't appear to be any shades of grey.
Which leads me to wonder if Hannah will ever be able to shake the stigma. Hell, other models have managed to shake off a lot worse (cough – Moss and Campbell – cough) but will those forbidden sips of Bollinger champagne be Hannah's ultimate downfall?
Given the penchant for you guys to banter about it, I thought it was best to go straight to the instigator herself and ask Hannah some hard truths about the whole situation. I was braced for excuses, but she offered up very few – and instead took the time to explain the whole situation and own her misjudgment.
"I suppose coming in here I was naïve," the 19-year-old says simply. "There were so many different things I had to deal with. I wasn't even sure how to deal with so many personalities and different types of people."
Fair call... but how does that translate to the champagne pilfering? Hannah breaks it down. She says the champagne was flowing at the party and someone literally handed her a bottle as she was leaving. Rather than chug it down or simply put it down, a giddily excited Hannah thought a great plan would be to take it home for later. "I really didn't think it was an issue, or stealing. I thought it was being offered to me," she explains.
Of course, she soon learned – the hard way – that taking a free bottle of champagne away from the venue it's being served at isn't exactly cool. "I apologised to Jackie when I found out she was upset," Hannah says. "I guess I was really in the moment, really overwhelmed by it all, really over-excited and at the time, I just didn't think about how it might seem."
"I am the person who ultimately felt the consequences of this," she continues. "I am embarrassed and humiliated – not only by what the public might think of me, but what my family and friends think of me." At this, her eyes well up noticeably. "If the message out there is that I am a thief, imagine what the people I love will think of me. Not to mention future clients and employees."
The label of 'thief' is a pretty huge one – and while forumers have been quick to throw it in Hannah's direction, she says it's not a tag she's comfortable with at all. (Fair call really, unless you're Robin Hood, I can't see how you would be.) "I am really traumatised by the fact that people have called me a thief," she says. "I didn't see it as stealing and until I realised the ramifications of my actions and how much it had hurt someone, I didn't realise what I had done. It was silly to take it though."
Now, what's interesting (or disturbing? I wonder...) is that this happened way back at the start of the comp. And here we are, weeks on, with just six beauties remaining, and we're still tossing up Hannah's moral fiber. What she says she's done to move forward, however, is apologise and then try and back that up by working her butt off. "What's important is my work ethic," she says. "I did make a change. It was noticeable that I wasn't getting along with everybody, but the good thing about that was that I wasn't pretending to be everyone's friend. For example, Sara and I knew we had differences, but we sorted them out and became stronger friends. I will really miss her from the house.
I would just say if anyone perceives me as the bitch, I think they should take note of what qualities takes to be a good person – being honest, up front and saying what you think are qualities that are really needed in this industry. 'Bitch' or 'thief' are the wrong labels for me. I made a mistake, I apologised and I have always told the truth," she finishes.
The real question is, is that enough for the Hannah Haters out there? And now she's found herself in the Bottom 3, will her fans step up to save her... or will Hannah have to face the public front on?
*Wondering... wondering... and weirdly, craving champagne...*
