Stanley has often let his work take over from his family life - a habit he now realises was a big mistake. In Series Two Stanley is facing the toughest emotional hurdle in his life. His marriage is over and it's touch and go as to whether Stanley will seek comfort in his church or his alcohol addiction. But there's a silver lining to this dark cloud. An old friend, defence lawyer Judith Welling, comes back into Stanley's life at just the right time.
Stanley is a deeply principled man. The plaque in his office No Greater Honour is more than a reminder of the victims in his care, it's his ethos, his reason for being a Homicide detective. The world of policing is not black and white and Stanley will always have his standards and beliefs tested. He can be tempted, like any other passionate person, to cross the professional line if helps get justice. But you know that if Stanley breaks with procedure there's a damn good reason for it...
