Now that his mother has been found and her killers brought to justice, Matt's found a fresh outlook. He's met a girl, Emma, and their relationship is moving pretty quickly, much to the amusement of his colleagues. Matt's more relaxed and confident. He knows how to yank Simon's chain and calm Duncan down when he's fired up.
To chill out, Matt's keen to try new things - salsa class is where he hooked up with Emma. He's also an enthusiastic cook; his heritage from his mum's family has made him an expert in Italian food.
The quiet achiever, Matt has a chance to shine in Series Two, finding himself in dangerous situations, and using his instincts and empathy to break through to people in crisis. Matt and Duncan make a good tag-team when interviewing suspects - Matt breaks them down with the hard questions, while Duncan pulls the rug out from under them. Matt's is not afraid to put his life on the line for what he believes is right.
