City Homicide

Detective Superintendent (Vice and Homicide) Bernice Waverley

Detective Superintendent (Vice and Homicide) Bernice Waverley

The Detective Superintendent of Homicide, Bernice Waverley is a supportive sounding board to Stanley Wolfe and his team of Detective Senior Constables. She's a great advocate for the advancement of women in the Police Service but also a firm believer in the notion that they have to earn their place, just as she did.

Series Two sees the development of Waverley's ambitious streak. She has her eyes on the top job - Commissioner - so she's keeping a closer eye on Homicide, to ensure her ship is in the tightest order possible when she makes her bid for the next step up. Tough and unemotional at work, Waverley saves her softer side for her teenage son Josh. To get away from the strains and stresses of her job, Waverley also finds time to sing in an a cappella choir.

In Series 2 Waverley will continue to deal with her fair share of obstacles. Trying to balance life as a single mother, and trying to advance an already accomplished career is not easy. But that's what's so interesting about her; no matter what she puts her mind to, she makes it work. Even if that means working the media to her advantage, and bending the rules on occasion.

Classic Waverley Quotes:

"Don't stuff it up!"

"There are things in the wind for me, Stanley. I don't need any sudden complications."

"And if it wasn't the case, I'd cheerfully stitch you back into uniform myself!"

"I like my Senior Sergeants unblemished. What reflects on you, reflects on me."

"So I suggest rather than blaming the inadequacies of your investigation on others, you go away and do your job!"

All Hail to the older gal, the experienced one who've seen it all and then some. Great character, somewhat akin to L&O Anita Van Buren. Heavier, her face lined, her hair obviously dyed the blond of middle years... So many women can relate to Waverly, myself among them. I can't wait for episode 6 where it's said she "kicks arse"! Great job!

Waverly is so awsome! Her sons kinda hot too! I commend her effort on beening a mother to a 14 year old boy and also having a full time job. I was reading in TV WEEK that in the second series shes going to have a blast from the past and she reveals her softer side. GOOD JOB BERNICE! XOXoX
