David Field

Detective Terry Jarvis

Plays Detective Superintendent (Armed Robbery and Drug Squad) Terry Jarvis

Detective Superintendent Terry Jarvis is Waverley's equal. She runs Homicide and Vice, he runs Armed Robbery and Drugs. Terry Jarvis runs his units with a bluff, friendly veneer which inspires loyalty within the circle and suspicion outside of it. The suspicion is well founded.  Jarvis is an ambitious bugger who will always look after his own team first before helping out any other departments. When a bungled drug operation ended in the death of Duncan's girlfriend Claire, a wall of animosity went up between the two officers. Duncan tolerates his presence, and Jarvis makes sure Freeman doesn't forget where on the ladder they both hang.

Jarvis is given the role of running Homicide while Waverley is away on sabbatical. This new leader, with his 'charge the gate' approach, is going to offer the troops a new style of leadership.

DAVID FIELD

David Field is no stranger to playing a top cop. Through the Blackjack telemovies with Colin Friels, David has been immersed in the policing world since 2003, recently finished filming another Blackjack this year.

"Playing a top cop is something familiar to me," he says. "But the best thing about City Homicide is the cast and the chemistry between the people. That's when things go well and we've definitely got it here. "I really like working with Shane and I've been looking forward to working with Noni for a while. It's a really strong cast."

David has been an actor for more than 23 years since training with the prodigious Hayes Gordon at the Ensemble Studios. He began his film career with one of the most powerful debuts seen in Australia in the highly acclaimed Ghosts Of The Civil Dead.

Since then he's received an AFI for his portrayal in the telemovie My Husband My Killer in 2001 and a nod from the Film Critics Circle of Australia for Best Actor for his performance as Bob Hawke in The Night We Called It A Day.

David has played standout roles in Two Hands and Chopper and co-produced and starred in Silent Partner, which received standing ovations at the Toronto Festival and defied film constraints by being filmed in one week.

He has recently been seen in Gettin' Square (for which he received an AFI nomination in 2003), The Oyster Farmer and finished shooting in Queensland on Unfinished Sky this year.

David has also worked for most major theatre companies in the country and in 2003 directed a sell-out season of Patrick Marber's "Dealer's Choice" for The State Theatre Co of South Australia. He returned to The State Theatre Co of South Australia the following year to direct another sell-out season of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf".

David, under the direction of Judy Davis in the Sydney Theatre Company production of "Victory", received the Helpmann Award in 2004. He then went on to the role of Eddie Carbone in the Arthur Miller play "A View from the Bridge" at the Ensemble Theatre for which he received the Best Actor Award (Sydney Theatre Awards) in 2005.

David is a remarkable actor without the ego you might imagine. I watched his work last night as they filmed a future episode. He took time out to say hello whilst he was having a break. Really lovely person.
