Laura, Sunbury, VIC
Gabrielle is so brave and forthright, and sort of unapologetic about how she does the job, and I'm so exactly the opposite of that. I'm always apologising. So it's probably incredibly useful for me to have Gabrielle, because I probably wouldn't learn how to put my foot down in my own life.
Did you have to do a nurses course?
Taylor, Engadine, NSW
I did four hours at a hospital, the week before I started at All Saints. And this is my first real acting job so I was nervous as anything. And I was going in at a level which was meant to be face to face with John Howard, I was so nervous. I spent time at St Vincent hospital and they fixed me to a nurse, so I just trotted along behind the nurses and just watched them. Certainly the thing I picked up the most with the nursing manager there is she is always shuffling paper work and juggling everything. She just multi tasks, in most scenes I have a folder.
We have great medical advisors on the production, which run through all the procedures, and they have medical rehearsals. It's phenomenal. They are really good at showing us what we need to know to fake the rest of it. Of course we can't really inject needles, so we learn how to cover up a lot of things with our hands.
Sometimes when you go to the hospital or when you see a Doctor, do you want to jump in and help out?
Matt, Fawkner, VIC
I just always watch very carefully. And everyone always makes a joke, shouldn't you just be fixing yourself! The really useful thing about going to see a doctor is watching how they use a needle, watching how they open sterile equipment because it's always useful to get more and more information from different people, and seeing what is standard across the board. And how effortlessly they do it, it's just part of their everyday life.
I also did a St John's Ambulance course because I've always had a fear someone was going to run up to me one day and say you're a nice, you fix it. So I learnt how to do CPR. I was really worried about it.
What is the best part about going to events like the Good Friday Appeal?
Rachel G, Sunbury, VIC
The best part is meeting the amazing families who are going through so much pain and discomfort and dealing with such strength through the illness of a child. You just see the human spirit in its purest form. It just puts everything in to perspective. It was really good to do that during It Takes Two, because I was like "it's so hard, it's so scary,' and then I saw people watching tubes coming out of their child and living in a hospital, and I just think when I see that, I have no idea what truly hard is.
Have you got anymore talents up your sleeve, Gabrielle and Virginia? And will we see an All Saint's musical?
Lisa Ellicott, Paterson, NSW
I'm writing the All Saint's musical, without a doubt. Every six weeks I take it up with the production office. Half the cast can sing very well. I'm definitely pushing for it.
The only thing I can do is the splits. Oh and I can balance lots of things on my chin. It's a massive, massive chin and I can balance chairs and things on my chins. I really should've joined the circus.
Will you do more singing?
Laura, Sunbury, Victoria and Rachel G, Sunbury, Victoria
I'd love to. I think that what I've discovered, as scary as that process was, when I felt I sang well it was one of the best experiences I've ever had, so I just have to keep on doing it because it felt amazing. When I got it wrong though, it felt appalling. I'm a Virgo and I can beat myself up with anything.
Can we expect to see Gabrielle hook up with somebody?
Dougal, Box Hill South, Victoria
I wish she would. I love it when Gabrielle gets a little bit more intimate, because she's so good at having her professional shell on. I'd love to see that. I'd love to see her play a bit more, she has got an absolutely wicked side, but because we only see her at work. I'd love to see Gabrielle out on a Friday night in a club or somewhere with shots of tequila. If it were a B&S, she'd probably try and do the pick up line, but if it was the city, I think she'd be a bit intimidated.
What about Gabrielle's relationship with Steve?
Hannah Moore, Caringbah, NSW
It's really hard in life when you break up with someone and have to keep seeing them, through work or something. And the reason it ended between Steve and Gabrielle wasn't because they fell out of love with each other, circumstances demanded that they needed to finish. I think it's hard for Gabrielle to be in the same space that she has so much history with.
I'm still pushing for the Gabrielle/Frank Campion storyline. Clearly, clearly there is more sexual tension in that NUM's office than the whole hospital altogether.
